Well after a longer than normal trek into the Essex country side we found ourselves at a very green Colne Valley Golf Club, first impressions from the club house terrace where that the course looked to be in good condition even with all the recent hot weather.
Once the game got under way our first impressions where proved to be right the course was indeed in very good condition and although we didn’t know the layout I for one enjoyed my afternoons golf and from what I heard from everyone else in the bar I think that this is definitely one we would all like to try again sometime.
Ok Down to business with what happened on the day,
Firstly, the Captains prize more commonly known as the Ass of the day (This time there were 4) Graham Alchin /Steve Foster/ James Taylor-Alford /Ronnie Sheldake who all decided to play the 15th Hole instead of the 6th Hole as they clearly can’t read the markers on the Tee box!
Now the serious stuff I’ll start with the Singles Knockout results
- Martyn Ray – James Taylor-Alford James goes through on a by.
- Rob Syer – Stu Wren Stu goes through on a by.
- John Mills – Nick Gabb Nick goes through (By being lucky).
The Semi -Finals to be played over the next two Society days are as follows.
- James Taylor-Alford – Nick Gabb
- Stu Wren – Andy McGarry
7th Hole – Nearest the pin in 2 James Taylor-Alford
9th Hole – Longest Drive Andy McGarry (Babbs won’t be happy)
17th Hole – Nearest the pin Graham (I was giving golf up until I won this) Alchin
Second place on the day was taken by myself with a respectable 34pts on count back from Steve Foster.
Winner on the day with a great 38pts was Nick (I hope my man put enough screws in that trophy cabinet) Gabb.
Well done to all the winners on the day and thanks to all who turned up and made it a good day. Scroll down for the full results table and RtD update.
See you all at Pavenham Park Golf Club next month.
John.
