Last Saturday 37 members, family and friends attended the annual Christmas Dinner at The Exhibition. It should have been 38 but sadly Lewis Gabb was called into work and couldn’t make it. Sorry to rub it in Lewis but you missed a great night!
After an excellent meal (if anyone is eating there before Xmas I fully recommend the beef) I presented our out going Captain, Nick Pedlar, with a hip flask as a token of our appreciation for all the work he put in firstly as Vice-Captain and then this year as Captain which hasn’t been the most straightforward year.
With the singles knock-out trophy having been presented after the last event at Cromwell the only playing trophy to be presented was the Race to Dubai trophy, won this year by next year’s Captain, John “Taffy” Mills. Well done John. Unfortunately John delegated the task of getting the shield home to Mrs Mills. Needless to say it was still in the pub Sunday afternoon. Nick then presented the Captain’s Trophy to the person who he thought had done a lot for the Society throughout the year. I was very surprised and humbled that he choose me, thanks Nick it means a lot to me.
A really great night was had by all, excellent food and brilliant company. I’d just like to thank all who attended and also Paul and all the staff at The Ex for making it a such a good evening. If anyone has any photos can they please send them to Phil Malley to put on the website. The only one I have is of James Taylor-Alford holding two pints of water but I don’t want to embarrass him by putting that on the website.
If I don’t see you before have a great Xmas and New Year.
