Results from Pidley – Sep 14th

A great day was had by all at Pidley yesterday. It’s a really enjoyable layout, and we were very impressed with the condition of the course. Miraculously for this society despite a pessimistic forecast, we only saw a few spots of drizzle and it wasn’t too windy.

Winner on the day was local expert & Pidley member Steve Vandan Zig, who scored 37 points, narrowly beating Paul Jones (local expert & Pidley member) on countback. Well done to Steve, he struck the ball beautifully all day and now leads the “Race to Dubai”

Other prize winners on the day were Paul Jones with “Nearest the pin in 2” and “Longest drive” (in both cases scuppering our Vice Captain’s dreams). Honour for the committee was restored by the Captain winning “Nearest the Pin”.

Pidley 2

Which brings us to the Captains “Bottom Prize”. Nominations were Andy Wren’s “tree shot” whereby he struck a tree with his 2nd, and ended about a 100 yards further back, and Pete Goddard’s 4 putt to lose his match on the 18th.

There could be only one winner – Graham Allchin, who entered the day with high expectations, which sadly didn’t materialise. The winning scenario for this prestigious award took place on the short 14th, Where he took 5 shots with the same club. For the tee shot, which demanded accuracy he took his trustee 3 wood, this went about 50 yards. The 2nd shot about 15 yards, the 3rd about 10 yards, the 4th about 5 yards, then the 5th; a sweetly struck 240 yards, narrowly missing a chip for a point!

Graham was not in the best of moods at the end, so declined joining the customary prize winners photo, so all we can show you is  a picture of his backside, putting the trophy in his bag. Never mind Graham, every dog has his day, the glorious quadruple is still on and at least you have 1 trophy secured!

Pidley 1

In the singles knockout semi final, John Botten beat Pete Goddard in a thriller which was only won on the final green. John now plays Graham Allchin in the final, to be held at Oundle.

______________________________________________________

After Spain, we will hopefully recover in time for our next UK event, which is our major ” The Landlords” to be played at Oundle on Saturday 26th October 2013.

Meet at the course 09:30 for Coffee & bacon rolls – First Tee 10:30 – Meal afterwards; Ham, Egg & Chips

This is a subsidised event at a cost of £30 for society members, which is a bargain.

There is also a special prize for this event donated by Paul “The Landlord” which is well worth winning (A meal voucher for 2 at the Exhibition)

The course itself is over 100 years old and has some cracking holes & is usually in great condition, so we hope to have a good turnout.

Please let me know if you can attend

Best regards

Steve
